NAVI MUMBAI: The biological mother of a four-month-old girl detected with HIV, a Hindu, is suspected to have used a Muslim woman's dress besides her UID card during admission to KEM hospital as the latter wanted to adopt the baby without having to go through the legal adoption process.
The biological mother had handed the baby over to the adoptive mother after discharge from hospital last October as the adoptive mother had agreed to adopt the baby.
While the child's condition is said to be 'stable', the whereabouts of the infant's biological parents are unknown.
After the biological mother had taken the baby under her wing soon after the birth, the child's health started deteriorating. The adoptive mother got the infant admitted to hospital in Jan where she was diagnosed as 'HIV +ve'. When doctors called the adoptive mother for an HIV test, she revealed the details of the baby. Now the baby remains without a mother.
The police are likely to invoke additional sections like fraud and others against both the women.
